Cansei de Ser Sexy - "Let's make love to Death from Above"

Cansei de Ser Sexy
(Portuguese for: I'm Tired of Being Sexy), also known as CSS, is a Brazilian band from the city of São Paulo. The group mixes influences of pop music, rock & roll, electronica and other kinds of art, like design, cinema and fashion, putting the blend in humorous lyrics in English and Portuguese.

She Wants Revenge!
8/25/2006 @ Pipeline

So I was talking to my friend My about She Wants Revenge. I don't think the news about this band has made it to Hawaii yet. They were all over the radio when we were in Seattle and SF.

I also heard that All American Rejects played a show at Pipeline last night and that they're playing a show tonight as well. I wish I could go but I got plans. So, if you haven't heard She Wants Revenge and you're trying to figure out if you should go or not, I thought I'd post some photos and some links to get you up to speed. You can see what they sound like before you go to the show tomorrow night...

Biography
-----------------------------------------
She Wants Revenge first got their big break in 2005 when their single "Out of Control" was played on KCXX, KROQ and quickly became the number one song played on the station. Their new song, "These Things," has shown great popularity at Yahoo! Music and was entered into the "Artist of the Month" contest there. "Tear You Apart" has received great fanfare for both its music video (directed by Joaquin Phoenix) and catchy, fast-paced beat. She Wants Revenge was featured on SPIN.com as the band of the day for October 18, 2005.[1]

Their debut self-titled album was mixed by Michael Patterson who has also mixed albums for Beck, The Notorious B.I.G. and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. It reached number thirty-eight on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart. Warfield credits the bands success to Chicago local music guru Zack Zwart. Zwart began following the band on tour advising his ‘cult’ followers to “embrace the sound.” Soon he amassed a huge support network for the band. "Without Zwart's huge following and support for our music, we would still be playing for drinks."

The vocals of lead singer Justin Warfield have been linked to the vocal stylings of Paul Banks (Interpol) and Ian Curtis (Joy Division). In 2006, She Wants Revenge performed at the Coachella 2006 Music and Arts Festival. They also played at the Village Voice Siren Music Festival in July 2006. They played August's Lollapalooza in Chicago. She Wants Revenge opened several shows during Depeche Mode's 2006 tour.

So anyway, come early to see us play then stick around to see how they program their beats and samples. It should be a fun show to watch. We go on when the doors open.

See you there!

There's no cold water in SF....

We stopped by a pizza/soulfood cafe in SF and I asked for a bottled water. The cashier took my money and gave me a warm bottle of water and a small plastic cup filled with ice. Nik thought it was funny so he took a picture...

Here are a few photos we took in Seattle. More pictures soon for sure....

New Shows Coming up

Hey guys, sorry, it's hard to post new shows on this website (new one soon). Anyway, we have a few coming up soon. like really soon. like this weekend. I think we're playing at red lion (the old bedroqs) near varisty on FRIDAY at 10PM. i feel like eating a magoo's sandwich as I post this.

So we're back now and it feels different. I think once we saw how things are really done on the West Coast we all feel much more confident and ready to take drastic measures. One question I kept hearing was, "when are you guys going to move here already?" It was hard to answer without sounding like I was making excuses. I don't know what we're going be doing next month, let alone, a year from now.

So with all this talk of bigger and better things and ch-ch-ch-changes, we spent many long public transit commutes talking about the future of the band.... but none of us wanted to talk about it so we ended up passing the time by scheming up what we'd do when we got back.

As I said on the plane, this is going to be the 3rd cycle of the LINUS!master cycle. Oh and we decided to officially change our band name to LINUS!

We took a ton of photos on our trip, Stan had 600 alone (I used his camera a lot too) so we'll post them when we get them all sorted. I'm thinking of selling my DSLR for a small-but-rugged point and shoot. I feel optimistic for LINUS in the 3rd quarter.

See you at the Show!

ANY KINE KINE podcast

Hey, while we were in SF, we did a podcast with Blastyojaw and DanRio. Both guys are from Hawaii. We had a barbeque where danmerle and I made mushrooms, red bell peppers, red onions, and butternut squash to better balance the meal of barbeque beef and Bar6 Hot Links. And the podcast was recorded while we were still cooking. If you listen carefully, you can hear me munching on some veggies in the background.

Here's a link to the podcast mp3.

FEELS: "Did you see the Words?" - Animal Collective

I had this album before I left but never really gave it a chance. I liked "Sun Tongs" after Eric told me about them but I never gave this new album a chance. Now that I'm back it's perfect. I love the first track!

And we're back!

Wow, it really didn't even feel like we were gone for too long. Thanks to our friends in Seattle and San Francisco. Now that we've seen the way it works on the West Coast, we all feel like trying even harder to make an impact here in the Hawaii scene while we can. We had so much fun we already started planning the next tour. In the next few weeks, look forward to a couple of shows, a few new songs, and a new website. It feels good to be back; but I do miss the weather up there. Thanks again everyone. This was fun.

We're headed home!

It is with great sadness (and an empty wallet) that we start our journey back home. Stan's in the kitchen making bacon, eggs, and rice; a fitting end to our Hawai'i fueled vacation from home. The more I think about it, the more I can see something happening if LINUS moves to the mainland. Thanks to the crews in Seattle and San Francisco, you made this the best tour yet! One of our live performances is on YouTube. Sorry to the people I promised "Emperor Norton's GBC." I'm flat broke. How about some dorritos from safeway? I'll be home soon!

Linus visits the Golden Gate Bridge

Hello linus family and friends! Today we're hanging out with our good friend Steve Su. I'm trying to type this message as we walk back along the bridge with my frigid fat fingers on my little phone. This trip has been awesome. Tonight we're meeting up with friends to attend a show where this guy controls these robots that play instruments. I just had my first In and Out burger and I'm hooked for life. Steve told us about the secret ''animal style'' menu and it did not disappoint. We have one more show here before we come back. It's a pajama party at Beale Street bar. See you all when we get back!

Hello from Seattle.

Well we're here. Although we haven't played a show yet we've had a pretty good time up here so far. Tonight we have a show at the skylark. Last night we celebrated Danmerle's friend's birthday and things got a little out of hand. I'll post some photos once we get a chance to upload them. Today we ran into Chad from Kite Festival. We're going to meet up in San Fran in a few days. Um, what else... We might have another show tomorrow night if all goes well. Moving gear is a bitch. I'll post some photos when we get to an internet cafe.
