Cherry, not a berry....

I went to Next Door last night and I saw the Malcognitas (and scored a CD, woot woot!), happy music man, and ctrl-alt-delete. This was a surprisingly good combination of bands and it made for a very entertaining time. If I'm not mistaken, this was happy music man's first show. I thought it was awesome, although a few parts were a little hard to take. Pots and pans and an acoustic guitar... what more do you need. If they put out a CD, I'd buy it.

Finished 6 more

We all got there at 7pm and we rerecorded a song called "Listen UP!" We're calling it the choke out song cause that's what it sounds like. Anyway, last night we also rerecorded Sasha, On a Holiday, and You Talk too Much.

Nik's going to Kauai for Thanksgiving so we're going to take a recording break for a week. We're playing a show at Pipeline next Wednesday with Kai Roots and another band who's name escapes me right now.

I'm going to continue writing music and finishing up parts this weekend, after I eat mad turkey. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Walter's Karaoke

Yesterday I copied a bunch of audio files that I want to use on the DVD. I also found some songs I want on the CD. Not sure if they'll make it on, but they're there. They're in one of the three folders on my desktop: New LINUS Album, LINUS DVD, and B-sides.

I need to digitize the footage from my camera to start making the DVD. I've been recording footage of random things. I have a feeling that the DVD is going to be of the "making of" sort. I wanted it to be ambient LINUS, but I think it'd be more interesting(cohesive) if there's a point to it. I'll post more photos soon.

See everyone in the studio tomorrow at 9am sharp! Unless you want to get breakfast before... call me.

6 hours in the studio just to tune the drums, this album's going to be the shit!

I just got back home from Highway Recording Studios on the ridge. Stan's still there with Phil working on getting the drums just right. We start recording on Monday. Here are some photos I took today.

I started writing out the songs that I want on this album... These three triplets looked like a good visual-start to the project. EDIT.

Back in the studio, what, two years later? Three? No, it couldn't be.

For this album I'll be using a combination of amplifiers. Stan just got this vintage peavey that I was playing around with today. It's got a solid state AND tubes!

Stan had to test out the drums to make sure the levels were right.

But before we setup the drums I had to go outside and polish the cymbals. Ah, the life of a rock star. Some of the cymbals were getting so hot in the sun, the polish was caking off. I almost dropped the ride cymbal when I tried to pick it up. HOT HOT HOT. Ok, so that's pretty much it for today. We start recording on Monday. Be on time!

It's too early for a Saturday morning....

It's almost 10:30am and I'm loading up the car with new drum heads and a few new tracks cued up on the ps-04 (I'm going to stop referring to it as such, from now on I'll call it the PS). Anyway, where was I, I'm loading up the car with the final instruments we'll need in the studio. Even though I have not use for it yet, I bought a "potato flute" at Music Mac yesterday. I also got some xylophone mallets, cymbal polish, and an acoustic guitar strap.

I need to leave now to get there on time, see you later. It's on!

"Ain't it Strange" - Dr. Dog is one of my favorite bands of all time.

Wikipedia says this about Dr. Dog:

"Dr. Dog is a psychedelic rock band from Philadelphia consisting of members Scott McMicken (A.K.A. Taxi), Toby Leaman (Tables), Zach Miller (Text), Juston Stens (Trouble), and Sukey Jumps (Thanks). Past members include Doug O'Donnell (Truck), Ted Mark (Today), and Andrew Jones (Trial). DR. Dog has explained that friends of the band also receive nicknames, which are drawn from various aspects of their lives and personalities (Jones, for example, is a certified lawyer). Their sound has been compared to that of various 1960s pop bands, especially the Beatles and Doo-wop, as well as The Flaming Lips."

I don't agree with the flaming lips reference, well actually, I don't want to. I don't like the Flaming Lips anymore. I don't like the singer.

We've scheduled recording sessions for next week Monday night. I have to shine up the cymbals and buy new drum heads for my drums. I finally got that ps-o4. It's so small it fits in the palm of my hand. Some one stopped me on the street and asked me where they could buy one. They thought it was a home-made ipod.

This weekend I worked on the vocals for "So I set Out."

Tonight on Mariner's Ridge: Powwows and Particulars

Ever have something that you wanted fall right into your lap? That's the kind of process we went through with our last CD. Each step in getting the songs off of our shitty little demo recordings and onto a fully produced and mastered Compact Disc seemed to come too easy.

This time, we're thinking it through a little more, more conniving, more calculated, more mischievous, more LINUS! We wrote the songs, now it's time to record! Tonight at 7pm we're hiking up Mariner's Ridge to powwow and begin the planning of the next LINUS! CD.

I want to call it “WhiteMarks on a WhiteWall.”

Now we have a manager. Now we have a clear plan. This is going to be fun. I'll be blogging the progress of the CD as it... progresses.

Is it illegal to create a jukebox online that plays songs that aren't mine?

I'm thinking about making one. Today's weather sucks. It's been raining since I got up with no chance of it letting up.
